  • Overview

    Primat is currently recruiting for an experienced Power Electronics Engineer to join our client’s rapidly expanding team in Gateshead, Tyneside.

     

    With a presence in the industrial, renewable energy, rail and defence markets, our client designs and manufactures custom electrical motors and generators, drives and power electronics.

     

    Based in our client’s Gateshead office, you will be responsible for the development, analysis and implementation of hardware and software solutions. The purpose of this role is to support in the design, development and testing of hardware / software solutions, working alongside a Principle Project Engineer and the Project Manager.

     

    As a Power Electronics Engineer, you will be highly motivated and at ease liaising with customers, suppliers and colleagues. This role includes highly competitive rates at a 40 hour working week.

    Responsibilities

    Your key responsibilities as a Power Electronics Engineer will include the following activities:

    • The development, analysis and validation of design solutions to meet project requirements using prototyping, simulation and validation by test techniques.
    • Generation of all functional, component, manufacturing, test and validation specifications. Contribute to the delivery of accurate project documentation.
    • Ensuring that all design solutions are robust, reliable, meet the budgeted cost and are on time.
    • Support related activities such as drawing and printed circuit board development.
    • Liaise with test and production departments during product introduction process, including design of test rigs.
    • Support with the installation and commissioning of equipment at the customers premises.
    • Assist the Principal Engineer in the planning, test set-up and operation of qualification tests as necessary, including tests conducted off site. You will also carry out the production of accurate qualification test reports.
    • Preparation of materials for design reviews. You will also provide advice on all aspects of design and engineering to management and staff to ensure effective decision making.
    • Actively follow the company’s health & safety policy, procedures and safe systems of work and be responsible for your own health and welfare, working with colleagues to ensure that the working environment is safe. This includes following instructions and actively participating in training and development to ensure compliance and best practice in this area.
    • Participate in and where requested, lead risk mitigation activities including DFMEA and hazard analysis.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications and Experience:

    • Degree in Electronics Engineering (BEng 2:1 or higher) with disciplines in power.
    • Design and test experience of power electronic converters (AC:AC, DC:DC, DC:AC) and/or motor drives. You will also be able to demonstrate experience in using simulation tools including Matlab/Simulink.
    • Experience of rail, energy, defence and/or industrial power products is desirable.

    You will ideally have the following skills & competencies:

    • Knowledge of power electronics design, analogue and systems engineering, digital electronics, system simulation, semiconductor switching devices and thermal design, specification of electromagnetic assemblies.
    • Knowledge of EMC and mitigation through design.
    • Awareness of embedded systems and control engineering.
    • Knowledge of microprocessor control, software development design of electromagnetic assemblies is beneficial.
