Overview

To produce, manage and deliver, mechanical engineering and design work for CED EPCm projects under the direction of the Engineering Manager.

Responsibilities

Work Planning & Organisation

  • Manage the Mechanical Engineering team
  • Act as the main client discipline liaison during project execution.
  • Prepare mechanical engineering man-hour estimates and associated execution strategies. Responsible for managing discipline engineering budgets.
  • Manage mechanical engineering input into engineering projects.
  • Ability to plan work and provide input to overall project plan. Prepare project reports, highlighting progress, forecast work and areas of risk.
  • Provide functional support and guidance to more junior staff to develop both them as individuals and the capability of the team as a whole.
  • Timely delivery of all project and engineering requirements, whilst meeting all other associated KPI’s including, HSE, Quality, Productivity, Commercial, Customer Satisfaction.
  • Contributing to the achievement of KPI’s associated with the whole of CED EPCm across all projects and disciplines.
  • The minimisation of mobilisation periods and down-time by accurate resource/recruitment planning.
  • Assist the Engineering Manager in recruitment.

Commercial & Risk

  • Protection at all times of the commercial position with any subcontracts or projects that are being undertaken, ensuring the Engineering/Project Manager is fully briefed regarding risk issues at all times.    
  • Assist all other managers within the company to achieve better commercial performance across all divisions.
  • Must ensure that the company’s commercial position is not compromised at any time during project or engineering package delivery. Full adherence is required to all company statutory financial controls and procedures, and also any project specific procedures that may be required under the Contract.
  • Contribute to the project risk register
  • Adequate communication of all factors affecting the commercial position of the project/company.
  • Completion of Mechanical and Packages scope of work to meet budget and all commercial KPI’s.
  • Maintain full awareness of the commercial position of the mechanical engineering scope and budget at all times, ensuring delay/disruption and variation issues are managed in an appropriate and timely manner and the required margins are delivered.
  • Advise Engineering Manager and / or the Project Manager, of any issues that may have a significant commercial impact on the project as soon as they become evident.
  • Raise change notes to capture changes to project scope that would have a cost impact.

 

Health, Safety, Environment & Quality

  • Responsible for Safety and Environmental implications of engineering design
  • Responsible for the quality of the mechanical design and all related deliverables and documentation issued during project execution.
  • Act as Hazard Study team member
  • Timely delivery of all project and engineering requirements, whilst meeting all other associated KPI’s including, HSE, Quality, Productivity, Commercial, Customer Satisfaction

Communication

 

  • Develop and maintain good relationships with all clients, stakeholders and service users.
  • Has to communicate effectively in verbal and written format at all levels, including project documentation for clients, project reporting and day to day discussion of tasks with engineers and others

 

Technical Requirements 

  • Responsible for mechanical design in accordance with the project quality plan, and all applicable codes and legislation.
  • Mechanical Engineering calculations including equipment sizing and design calculations.
  • Generation of mechanical equipment and package datasheets and specifications.
  • Development of procurement specifications, undertaking TBA’s and ongoing vendor / package management.
  • Responsible for change control to design documentation and project scope.
  • Development and approval of all mechanical engineering deliverables in accordance with Fabricom and client procedures.
  • Selection and evaluation of equipment and liaison with suppliers.
  • Knowledge of the design process through concept, Front End Engineering and detailed design phases.
  • Keep up-to-date with latest industry standards, and technology associated with mechanical engineering within the Oil & Gas, Petrochemical and Energy industrial sectors
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the design of specification of static equipment, including tanks, pressure vessels.
  • Knowledgeable and experienced in the design of rotating equipment including pumps compressors and mechanical handling devices.
  • Right first time engineering, minimal re-work.
  • Investigate, develop and train others in new processes and design techniques.
  • Checking and approval of mechanical engineering design work by others.  

 

Business Development

 

  • Support business development in the preparation of proposals, client meetings and presentations. Act as an ambassador for Engie, always presenting the right image to existing and potential clients.

 

 

 

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience & Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer.
  • Significant mechanical engineering and design experience at a senior level, principally within the process plant, pharmaceutical and/or power industries.
  • Good understanding of process safety requirements on top tier COMAH sites.
  • Experienced in the use of engineering design software and tools, such as Finglow

Essential Skills

  • Effective communication and time management.
  • Ability to lead a team of engineers/draughtsmen.
  • Ability to manage costs and schedule to tight budgets/deadlines.
